"Day of the Triffids" Original Lobby Card #1. "Day of the Triffids" aka "Invasion of the Triffids" is a 1962 film adaptation of the great book by John Wyndham. Triffids are semi-intelligent man-eating plants that can travel and communicate with each other. They are a minor threat until most of humanity is struck blind after watching a dazzling meteor shower. The newly blinded people cannot defend themselves from the killer plants, so they rely heavily upon the few sighted people who, for whatever reason didn't watch the meteor shower. Great movie, though it's never been remastered and released in decent quality on DVD. Sadly, the VHS is the best quality out there. The British mini-series from 1981 is even better than the film and a near perfect adaptation of the novel. The latest (2009) mini-series is a poor adaptation but still fun to watch.
