"Luana" Original Half Sheet. aka "Luana - the Girl Tarzan," aka "Luana - Jungle Girl." "As savage as the beasts that raised her!" Mei Chen is Luana, a girl who was lost in the jungle when her father's plane went down. Typical jungle girl flick with monkey high jinks and blow-gun toting natives. Frank Frazetta art. From 1973. Trailer here. Also, "Shades of Gray" blog has a promotional comic of the film here.

"Xtro" Original One Sheet. "Some extra-terrestrials aren't friendly." A bizarre film about a father and son. The father was abducted by aliens, but returns a few years later in the form of an alien on all fours with backward legs and a forked tongue. It creeps into town and attacks a woman in a secluded house, who then gives birth to a full grown man (the father.) The movie gets more bizarre after that, because the son begins to realize that he has telekinetic powers. He uses them to animate a toy tank to attack people. Also, he makes a man-size G.I. Joe to terrorize a mean old lady in their building. Other highlights include Maryam d'Abo in a cocoon, a crazy clown and an unexplained panther. Actually, the best part of the DVD is the interview with the director. He admits the movie is a piece of crap and that he just tried to make the grossest film he could. Also, he tells how he's watching the news a few years after the video release and they've caught a serial killer. They're looking around his home and the camera zooms in on a bunch of so-called "video nasties." "Xtro" is right in the middle. Ha ha. From 1983. Trailer here.

"The Nest" Original One Sheet. "Roaches have never tasted meat... Until now." A biological experiment on roaches in an island community creates mutant man-eating cockroaches. Also, whatever they chow down on becomes a part of the DNA of the next generation, so you get to see people-roaches, cat-roaches, etc. Possibly the inspiration for the "Mimic" films, which have a similar plot line. Pretty boring. The scene on the poster never takes place either. 1987. Trailer here.

"War Goddess" aka "Terence Young's Amazons" Original One Sheet. "Women Warriors as Sensuous as they are Savage. Women Rulers as Passionate as they are Powerful." The 1975 film about a tribe of wild Amazons. Every 4 years, a new Queen is chosen for the Amazons through intense competition and battle, including wrestling, javelin throwing, climbing challenges and horse racing (while whipping other contestants.) In order to compete, each woman must bring the head of a man. The Amazon women enjoy a fine existence, except for once a year when they must breed with men to further their race.
Director Terence Young and colleagues reviewed 14,000 photographs and conducted "Miss Amazon" contests in Trieste, Paris, Hamburg, Munich, Rome and Nice to come up with the 100 women who are the "Amazons." They then endured a six-week training regimen that included riding, calisthenics and running from early in the morning until lights out. They did mostly their own stunts too; several girls had broken legs and one lost a finger under a chariot wheel!
It was filmed in Spain. The original is 105 minutes, but the U.S. release (War Goddess) is a cut up 89 minutes. There is a Japanese DVD that has English language that clocks in at 103 minutes. Here's the trailer. Contains nudity. From 1973. Also see my movie program.

"Gator Bait" 8x10 Promotional Still. "Untamed and deadly as the swamps that spawned her!" "Half animal... All Woman." Claudia Jennings is Desiree, a backwoods gal who takes care of her siblings through poaching alligators. When two hillbilly deputies catch her poaching, they give chase and through a series of mishaps, one of the deputies accidentally shoots and kills the other one. Well, they go back and tell the sheriff that Desiree is the killer. Then, one of the crazy Brackett clan kills her sister. After that, Desiree goes on a revenge killing spree. Has to be seen to be believed. Not available in any format except VHS. Unfortunately, Claudia Jennings' career was just getting started when she was killed in a car accident in 1979. Here's the trailer. From 1974.

"Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires" Original International One Sheet. aka "The 7 Brothers Meet Dracula." "Deadly Horrors! Dragon Thrills! The First Kung Fu Horror Spectacular!" While lecturing in the Far East, Professor Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) tells his students of a doomed village in China that becomes cursed every year at the time of the 7th moon. Van Helsing is persuaded by a family of kung fu experts to rid the village of the 7 vampires that torment its citizens. He is joined by seven brothers and one sister, who help him fight Count Dracula (in the guise of a local warlord,) and his kung fu vampire minions. Whew! This movie's actually pretty good. Christopher Lee turned down the chance to play Dracula this time after the not-so-great "Dracula AD 1972," although it's obvious that they used a close up of his eyes when Dracula is brought back from the dead near the beginning. Good stuff. Also, be on the lookout for a "Wilhelm Scream" during the big fight scene at the village (at 1hr 12mns) when Van Helsing shoves a zombie into the fire pit. From 1974. Trailer here.

"Scanners" Original Insert. An experimental tranquilizer called Ephemerol, which was used on pregnant women, fails due to an unseen side effect on unborn children: It creates scanners. (Psychics with the ability to control minds, cause intense pain and in some cases, kill.) When the strongest of the Scanners starts an underground movement tasked with world domination, only other Scanners can stop him. I love this movie and although the poster art gives away the ending, the poster is great too. It spawned 3 sequels: "Scanners II: The New Order" (1991), "Scanners III: The Takeover" (1992) and "Scanner Cop" (1995). Here's the trailer. 1981.
"Heavy Metal" Original Half Sheet. "A shadow shall fall over the universe, and evil will grow in its path... and death will come from the skies." An animated sci-fi anthology based upon stories from Heavy Metal magazine that are tied together with a story about a flying orb containing the essence of evil, called the Loch-nar. Actors contributing their voice talent include John Candy, Harold Ramis and Eugene Levy. Interestingly, Elmer Bernstein's theme for Taarna was actually written for the character of Alex in "Saturn 3" (1980). The theme was never heard in the film, so Bernstein used it for this film. From 1981. Here's the trailer.

"Buck Rogers" (in the 25th Century) Original Style B One Sheet. The feature film that's actually the pilot to the hit TV series. In the year 1984, astronaut Captain William "Buck" Rogers is frozen when his life support fails and he is sent into a vast, slowly deteriorating orbit around Earth. By the time he reaches Earth, it's the year 2491. The Earth has changed drastically. When he lands, he meets the beautiful Colonel Wilma Deering (Erin Grey) and the robot Twiki (voiced by Mel Blanc.) Another highlight is Pamela Hensley as Princess Ardala. 1979. Trailer here.
"Aliens" Japanese Movie Program. (Part 2 of 2) One of my all time favorite movies. James Cameron's 1986 sequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 film, "Alien." After being awakened from cold sleep, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is brought in as an adviser when contact is lost with a colony on the planet LV-426. Sadly, men women and children are feared lost. She, and an elite squad of Colonial Marines are sent in to search for survivors. Here's the trailer.

"Critters 3" Original Video Poster. "You are what they eat!" As much as I like the more or less continuing saga that is "Critters," this movie is just awful. The Critters hitch a ride on a camper and end up in a poor neighborhood tenement apartment building. Why is the third sequel always the worst? *AHEM* "Spiderman 3 - The Musical." Anyway, this is Leonardo DiCaprio's film debut, and I can't decide if that's good or bad. I've always wondered what an actor would say if you ran up to them and said "Leonardo DiCaprio? Hey, you were in Critters 3! Can I have your autograph?!" Ha ha. But, back to the poster: I love the art. If you look closely, you can see it's a really well-done painting. Sort of like Critters Do NY. Here's the trailer. From 1991.

Silly.

"So Fine" Original Insert. "A revealing comedy." When his father develops money problems, a man comes up with an idea that turns into an unexpected overnight fashion success - women's bluejeans with vinyl windows, exposing the butt cheeks. Ha ha. Okay, just so you know, I didn't buy this poster. It came in a lot of ten when I bought my "Scanners" insert. Here's a fake commercial for the jeans. Unbelievable. From 1981.
"Flash Gordon" Original Thai Vertical Poster. Based upon the 1934 comic strip. "Flash!... He'll save every one of us!" When strange energy waves pull the moon out of orbit, threatening destruction of the Earth, Dr. Hans Sarkov makes a desperate rocket flight with two unwilling passengers: Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones,) quarterback of the New York Jets and Dale Arden (Melody Anderson.) Their destination is the planet Mongo, source of the strange energy waves. Also starring the gorgeous Ornella Muti as Princess Aura and Timothy Dalton as Prince Barin. Featuring a repetitive soundtrack by Queen. Believe it or not, I got this poster plus the horizontal one below for a penny. That's the coolest thing I've ever bought for 1 cent. Anyway, here's the trailer. 1980.

(Also, there's a giant menacing eel.) Here's the trailer. From 1977.

"Big Doll House" Original Half Sheet. Aka "Bamboo Dolls House," aka "Womens Penitentiary III." "Soft young girls behind hard prison bars." Five women who are being tortured in a Philippine prison plot an escape with the help of two men from the outside. The film was made for a measly $125 grand, and has grossed over $10 million. This poster is the International version. (U.S. versions and International versions often have different art.) Mine was originally displayed in Amsterdam. Here's the trailer. (Contains nudity.) 1971.

"Queen of Blood" Original Half Sheet. I like this movie. "A Deathless Witch who Devours Men!" "Hideous Beyond Belief!" In the distant future (the year 1990,) a radio transmission notifies earth of an imminent visit by aliens. When a ship crash lands on Phobos, we mount a rescue and find one female survivor. She's green and has a beehive hairdo! However, as the body count begins to stack up on the Earth ship, the crew realizes she lives entirely on blood. Watch for a very young Dennis Hopper as a crew member. As far as I know it's never been released on DVD. I recorded it from AMC back when it was good and commercial-free. From 1966. Trailer here. P.S. Looks like it's available to stream on Netflix.

"At the Earth's Core" Japanese Movie Program. A Victorian scientist, (Peter Cushing) and his assistant, (Doug McClure) take a trip to the center of the Earth using a tunneling machine. They find all manner of strange creatures, including a species of telepathic bird which the natives worship. Caroline Munro is the beautiful Dia, a native girl who's soon to be sacrificed to the birds. I really like this movie. There's a really trippy scene where mad scientist Peter Cushing is hanging onto a giant plant, waving his umbrella while a giant creature screams and stomps it's way through the forest toward him. There are all kinds of weird, colorful plants and creatures. Very loosely based upon a story by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Japanese movie programs are sold at the theater in limited quantities to promote the film. They're great because they're relatively cheap, but printed very well and are loaded with rare stills. Here's the trailer for the film. From 1971.

"2 Days in the Valley" Original One Sheet. (There are at least 3 different styles of this poster. I believe mine is relatively rare. See a comparison here.) "2 Days in the Valley" is a great film from 1996 with a fantastic cast of characters whose stories all come together by the end of the film. It includes some great actors, such as Danny Aiello, James Spader, Teri Hatcher, Charlize Theron, Jeff Daniels and Eric Stoltz. I remember seeing this in the theater and renting the laserdisc some time later. I also remember one of the tracks on the laserdisc was titled "Spandex Catfight." A real classic. It really needs a nice release since the DVD is pretty low quality. Here's the trailer.

"Horror Planet" Original One Sheet. "A crawling terror from the depths of doom!" "Horror Planet" is the U.S. cut version of the U.K. film "Inseminoid." On a distant planet, in a series of caves, a group of archeologists find an alien creature. It impregnates one of the team who then starts killing her coworkers to protect the alien babies. This movie is terrible. Super low budget and you never really get a clear shot of any aliens. Here's the trailer for "Inseminoid." It sort of contains nudity... I think. "Night of the Comet" Original One Sheet. A rogue comet is spotted and the Earth is expected to pass through it's tail, an event which hasn't happened for 65 million years. Hmm, isn't that when the dinosaurs became extinct? Everyone who turns out to watch the comet is predictably fried. Those with minimal exposure are turned into zombies, and those with no exposure are unaffected. Two sisters, Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) and Sam (Kelli Maroney) are left in an empty world filled with living dead. They must learn to defend themselves and fire automatic weapons. Expect lots of '80s music, '80s hair and '80s terms like "Bitchin'" It's from 1984. Trailer.

A group of kids who've been institutionalized because they're afraid of their dreams, learn to fight the child-killer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) with the help of a woman who's gone up against him before. Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) teaches them that dreams can be controlled and used against their enemy. I've always liked the poster art for this film the best, and the movie's pretty decent too. Watch for Laurence Fishburne in an early role as an orderly. Here's the Dokken Music Video for "Dream Warriors." Watch out! It sticks in your head. From 1987.

"When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" Original Insert. A prehistoric tribe believes they must sacrifice all blondes to the soon to be born moon, but when a freak storm arrives, Sanna (Victoria Vetri) escapes. Now she must navigate alone through a world filled with danger. Hammer Films' second Prehistoric epic due largely to the success of "One Million Years BC." Notice the poster says rated G. This was released on DVD as a double bill with "Moon Zero Two" as a Best Buy exclusive. The box shows a G rating, but Warner Brothers accidentally used the R rated print (with a nude scene intact,) and it has since been pulled from shelves. From 1970. Epic TV Spot and Trailer. I have some stills to post at a later date too.
"Species 2" Original Lenticular One Sheet. "Species 2" is the 1998 sequel to "Species" from 1995. This time, the alien creature from the first film has been cloned and is being studied to find weaknesses, in case of an invasion. Her name is Eve, and she's once again played by Natasha Henstridge. Meanwhile, a manned mission to Mars yields soil samples that contain alien DNA. Apparently, Mars was once a living, thriving planet until the aliens decimated all life, and now the alien DNA has infected and changed one of the astronauts. If he is allowed to mate with Eve, it's all over. A photo just didn't do this poster justice so I made a short HD video. Here's the trailer.

"Munchies" Original One Sheet. An alien obsessed Professor, (Harvey Korman from The Carol Burnett show) finds what he believes to be an extra terrestrial, while exploring some caves in Peru. He and his dumb comedian son bring it back to Civilization and mayhem ensues. This is Roger Corman's rip off of "Gremlins," "Ghoulies" and "Critters." Unfortunately, it's nowhere near as good as any of those. The Munchies themselves are so obviously hand puppets, and to top it off, the poster even rips off "The Woman in Red." Strangely, it has Nadine Van der Velde, who was the young girl in "Critters," another small creature movie from the previous year. It's from 1987 and here's the trailer.

"George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead" Original One Sheet. "There IS a fate worse than death." This is for the 1990 remake of "Night of the Living Dead." Something is making the recently deceased reanimate in the form of flesh-eating zombies, and a group of people fortify an old house and attempt to survive the night. I personally like this remake better than the original, just because of Patricia Tallman's portrayal of Barbara. In the original, Barbara spent the entire movie cringing in fear and screaming at everything. In the remake, she adapts pretty quickly and starts fighting back. Here's the trailer.

"Angels Brigade" Original One Sheet. Aka "Angels' Revenge" and my favorite, "Seven From Heaven." "Seven super sexy girls take on the bad guys in an explosion of wild action, crazy stunts, and loads of laughs!" Jack Palance, Jim Backus (Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island,) and Alan Hale Jr. (The Skipper from Gilligan's Island) must have lost one hell of a bet to end up in this stinker. A school teacher who's trying to get her students off of drugs recruits a famous singer, a stunt woman, a karate teacher, and various other female experts to shut down a drug ring. (Apparently today's karate lesson with little kids involves a samurai sword. Ridiculous.) I wrote down a few quotes too:
-Police Guy: "We can't have a bunch of broads running around."
-April: "Just push that button and whoever was following us BOOM!, ain't no more." MST3K tore this apart under the name "Angels' Revenge." From 1979.

"Runaway" Original One Sheet. "You can't run away, Ramsay. My little machines will find you wherever you go." A great Michael Crichton sci-fi flick about a police officer in a future where robots are a part of life: They help with household tasks and perform all sorts of manual labor. Unfortunately, some of them are running out of control and killing people. A psychotic man (Gene Simmons, believe it or not,) is reprogramming them to kill. This movie's great! It has speeding robots that can drive under cars going full speed and detonate, little spider robots that attack and inject venom in their victim, and my personal favorite: a bullet that can be programmed to assassinate a certain person, and will even follow them around corners. From 1984. Here's the trailer.
"Hired Killer" Original Insert. "He had money to burn... Women to kiss... And men to kill!" Aka "No Tears for a Killer." A story about a hitman who's just got one more case to finish so he can retire. This one stars Robert Webber. From 1966.

"Ms. 45" Original One Sheet. "It will never happen again." Aka "Angel of Vengeance." Thana, a mute woman (Zoë Lund), becomes a crazed vigilante after she is raped. She runs around town at night, killing men with a .45 handgun. From IMDB: The name of Zoë Lund's character, Thana, is reminiscent of the Greek god of death, "Thanatos". Sigmund Freud used the word to refer to the human "death instinct", which leads people to take risks, seek thrills or behave destructively in ways that could lead to death. I don't know if the movie's any good, but the poster's always been one of my favorites. From 1981. Trailer.
"The Perils of Pauline" Original Half Sheet. A young Pauline (Pamela Austin) is left on the doorstep of the Baskerville Foundling Home, and is taken in and raised. George Steadman (Pat Boone), a boy roughly her own age, falls in love with her and foils all attempts to have her adopted out. Kicked out, he goes in search of his fortune so that he can return and earn Pauline's hand in marriage. Pauline then gets a job tutoring a young prince in the Middle East, only for the prince to decide he wants her in his harem. Fleeing, she goes from peril to peril where she is sold to pygmies in Darkest Africa, is rescued by an old millionaire who wants to freeze her so that his one year-old grandson can marry her in 25 years time and later becomes a movie star and goes into space as a Russian cosmonaut. While all the time she is pursued by mad, big game hunter, Sten Martin (Terry Thomas). Well, you get the picture. This movie is actually a TV pilot that was never picked up. I'd love to see it. 1967.

"The Name of the Game is Kill" Original insert. Also known as "The Female Trap." A drifter meets a girl named Mickey (Susan Strasberg) while driving the desert highways. Mickey runs a last-chance gas station in the desert with her mother and three sisters. This guy falls for her without realizing the danger, and when he is invited to stay with her strange family things go downhill fast. I saw this cult film a few years back on VHS. It was pretty good but drags on until the end, when things finally get interesting. It's from 1968 and you can see the trailer here.

"Cave Girl" Original One Sheet. While on a school field trip, an aspiring paleontologist stumbles upon a strange jewel that sends him back in time. There, he meets a beautiful blond cave girl who is fascinated by him. This is a silly comedy from 1985 that's actually kind of funny. Here's the trailer. (Contains nudity.)
"Angel of H.E.A.T" Original One Sheet. Great art on the poster, possibly by Drew Struzan. Does anyone know? "Action star" Marilyn Chambers stars as Angel Harmony, an agent of an organization called H.E.A.T (you never find out what the acronym stands for.) This horrific action comedy has something to do with androids, microchips, and a fat mad scientist in a black and purple cape but I just couldn't make it through. What a turkey. It's from 1983.

"The People That Time Forgot" Original Half Sheet. The 1977 sequel to Edgar Rice Burroughs' "The Land That Time Forgot." Major McBride (Patrick Wayne) heads a mission to Antarctica to search for his friend (Doug McClure,) who disappeared in the region on an earlier expedition. They discover a hidden world filled with danger, dinosaurs, the busty Ajor (Dana Gillespie,) and enough explosions to make Michael Bay jealous. I love this movie, and it's actually available on DVD. Here's the trailer.
"September Storm" Original Insert. "You see it with special viewers scientifically designed by master craftsmen!" Ha ha. Really? Not just crappy cardboard 3D glasses? Based upon the book "The Girl in the Red Bikini," by Steve Fisher. A model and a group of adventurers search for a million dollars' worth of gold coins that went down with an African ship in the Mediterranean. I've never seen this one, but it's hard to find a good review so potential viewers beware. It's from 1960.

"Joysticks" Original Insert. Silly 80's comedy about a video arcade that's the local hangout. When a rich business owner tries to shut it down to make room for development, and keep his daughter out of trouble, the patrons and owners get together to stop it. Sort of funny comedy, but the "valley girl" voice is SO irritating. I dare you to watch it. Trailer here.

"The Final Terror" Original One Sheet. They must have thought Rachel Ward was a big star, because they made her name float a little higher than everyone else on the poster credits. Heh heh. I got this poster for five bucks. "The Final Terror" is a slasher flick about a group of aspiring park rangers camping and working with a killer stalking them. Mostly known for having Daryl Hannah in a minor part, before she made it big in "Splash" the next year. I waited and waited for Netflix to send this movie until I spotted it on Youtube and finally watched it there. (It looks like they removed it now.)

"Twins of Evil" Original Insert. A great Hammer film that was very loosely based upon the vampire tale "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu. Peter Cushing plays the forceful Puritan Gustav Weil, who heads a vigilante group of witch (er um, I mean vampire) hunters. But when his twin nieces come to live with him, he suspects that one may be a vampire. Also starring Madeleine Collinson and Mary Collinson. From 1971. Here's the trailer. Once again, unfortunately, this movie is not available in the States on DVD yet. I have a great PAL release myself.

"Africa: Texas Style" Original Half Sheet. Pilot movie for the short-lived series "Cowboy in Africa." Two Texas cowboys are hired by an African wildlife caregiver to corral big game as part of a wildlife saving effort, but they're hampered in their efforts by poachers and a bad guy big game hunter. Beautiful art on this poster. I wish I knew who the painter was. 1967.

"Daybreakers" Advance One Sheet. In the near future, a fast spreading virus has transformed most of the population into vampires. As a result, the dominant race (vampires) is facing hunger due to a dwindling supply of blood from humans. Meanwhile, a covert band of vampires is looking for help from a human hematologist, who may hold the answer. Great underrated movie. This is one of 3 advances that are far superior to the regular one sheet. 2009. HD trailer here.

"Mischief" Original insert. A dorky high school kid named Johnathan has a crush on the beautiful and popular Marilyn (a young, pretty Kelly Preston,) but she never looks at him twice, until he becomes friends with the motorcycle riding new kid, who teaches him how to get the girl. This movie also has Catherine Mary Stewart, from "Night of the Comet" and "The Last Starfighter." Two of my favorite '80s actresses in one flick. Actually, it's mostly notorious for Kelly Preston's nude scene. 1985. Here's the trailer.
